Mary Ringwald Yancey

Mary Ringwald Yancey
November 2, 1940 – November 23, 2009

Mary Ringwald Yancey, born on November 2, 1940 in Savannah, Georgia, died on November 23, 2009 at her daughter's home in Gainesville, Florida after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 47 years, Don Yancey, daughter, Tonya Sieber, son-in-law, Kurt Sieber, and five grandchildren, Kayli, Kevin, Shelby, Courtney, and Brittany Sieber of Gainesville, Florida; daughter, Beth Borchart, son-in-law Chuck Borchart, and two grandchildren, Matt and Lauren Borchart of Savage Minnesota; son, Lee Yancey, daughter-in-law, Sonja Yancey, of Jacksonville, Florida.

Mary married Don Yancey in Savannah, Georgia on December 29, 1962. She graduated from Savannah High School in 1958 and received her nursing degree in 1962 from Warren A. Candler Hospital School of Nursing in Savannah, Georgia. While she worked a career as a respected Registered Nurse, she considered her roles as wife, mother of her three children, and wonderful Mema of her seven grandchildren as the most important ones. Mary had a gift for gardening and cooking. She had a "green thumb" that could make any plant grow beautifully. Her cooking was always the very best with a wide array of recipes. She also enjoyed spending time with five local grandchildren who will miss their Mema tremendously. Mary was also an avid reader, enjoyed her vacations relaxing on the beach, and fishing.

Mary was a great role model and friend who was always looked upon for her keen intelligence and wisdom. She will be truly and deeply missed by all who have known her and whose hearts she has touched.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 27, 2009 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

A graveside funeral service will be held at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 11:00AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Mary Yancey to The American Cancer Society, 2119 S.W. 16th Street, Gainesville, FL 32608, www.cancer.org.

Don and family Celia and I are so sorry for your loss. Mary was a very special lady and she had such a sweetness about her. It was our pleasure to keep Beth until after your second child was on the way. I can remember Beth sitting on my lap, running her hand over my face and saying “mar got nasty beard”. Celia and I have many fond memories of those early times. You and your family are in our Prayers.

- Celia and Lamar Tyler, Rincon, GA

Don, Tonya, Beth and Lee, I am so very sorry. I really don't know what to say. Mary was my hero when I was a little girl and I never got tired of being with her. She was 6 years older than me, but she tolerated her pesky litlle cousin with grace and love. She was one of the most beautiful people in the world and all of the cousins wanted to look like Mary. She was very instrumental in me venturing into my career of 30 years--nursing. I have a baby picture of her somewhere, that I will send to you if you email me an address. It looks just like her. To say anything else would be redundant, for to me Mary was just that--Mary. I will always love her and miss her.

It will be the little things that I will remember about Aunt Mary, the quiet moments, the smiles, the laughter, the fishing trips the Thanksgiving dinners. And although it may seem hard right now,it will be the memories of these little things that help to push away the pain and bring the smiles back again. With Loving Memories-Love you all-Ashlei, Greg, Allison and Aaron Wilder

- Ashlei Wilder, orangeburg, SC

The 4 of us had a blast on all of our trips. The food and fishing at Cumberland Island, the horse back riding in the mountains, the drive and the beaches at Outer Banks, the parties and dancing on our cruises, and the Disney World Trips. Our card games and her laughter will be truely missed. Love You Terrell and Lynelle
